BD Diesel Racers
Derek Rose 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Casco, MI
Derek has been a part of the BD Diesel Race Team for the past 4 years. Becoming our 1st BD Diesel Diamond Level racer, his ambition and 'go getter' attitude combined with his mechanical mind and talents has allowed him to succeed at the highest levels in Diesel Motorsports. A great Ambassador for the Motorsport Industry.
Derek and his wife Nicole started DNR Customs as a hobby, but soon moved into a successful family based mechanical business that continues to grow. As does there family. Proud parents of Izzy and now expecting another little one soon after the UCC 2018.
In 2016, Derek participated in the Ultimate Callout Challenge; also known as UCC. UCC brings the best of the best in the Diesel Industry together to compete against each other in a 3 day Drag Racing, Sled Pulling and Dyno event. It tests the abilities of the Drivers and their builds. With over 25 participants, Derek came in overall 5th place in 2016, followed up by 2nd place in 2017!
In 2016 Derek raced his 2006 Dodge 2500 'BlueBallz' build. Powered by BD Diesel's Triple S471 Turbochargers, a BD fully built Track Master Transmission, BD Double Stacked Transmission coolers, BD Suspension & BD CP3 R900. Finishing in 5th place on the dyno with an incredible run of nearly 2,050 HP and almost 2,800 lbs-ft of torque before finishing in 3rd place on the drag strip with a 9.4-second pass down the 1,320. He finished 2016 overall 5th place but he knew there was more to be gained from his truck.
He decided to switch it up in 2017 turning his 2006 Dodge 2500 'BlueBallz' into a fierce center drive 'Billet Bitch' build. Powering it by New BD Diesel Triple SX-E Turbochargers - 488/488/594, BD Double Stacked Transmission coolers, BD Suspension & BD Triple CP3 R900 and backed by a BD Diesel TrackMaster 48RE transmission, full roller bearing set up with our Triple lock torque converter and 6 bolt flex plate that is built to the hilt to handle the monster Cummins. Uniquely earning him a 2nd place title using the all the components he started with, including 1 transmission! Derek was so close to the 1st place UCC Title, as he passed the 310-foot mark in the final sled pull the engine let go in a ball of flames leaving Rose with a 3rd place finish and second overall for the event. If the engine had held together for only 16.5 more feet Rose would have been crowned the 2017 UCC Champion, but as it was he was the only competitor to be on the podium for each of the three events.
Derek now in the 2018 UCC Challenge, the Billet Aluminum block was not holding the power so we switched back to a cast iron decked and girdled block and re-naming his BD Diesel backed Race Truck 'Basic Bitch'. Fueled it with triple BD R900 CP3 pumps, S+S injectors and two Borg Warner SX-E 488 Turbochargers - with a GT55 mounted on BD's T6 exhaust manifold, BD Double Stacked Transmission coolers, and our TrackMaster 48RE transmission with a manual valve body serviced by Franks transmission and equipped with the BD Hi5 serviceable 5 clutch converter and 12 bolt flex plate. The engine dyno'd with a single GT55 at over 2000 hp. and at recent track test and tune Derek ran 5.8 seconds for 1/8 mile runs.
Cody Hopkins 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Wellington, CO
Cody joined the BD Diesel Race Team in 2015. Starting from the bottom of the program and working his way up to the top, we have been able to assist and guide Cody in fulfilling his passions. Cody is our most active racer; joining us in Canada (from Colorado) for the BD Diesel Dirt Drags with his family by his side and also joining the BD Team at SEMA 2017. Cody continues to grow every season. Het sets his goals and meets them.
In 2017, Cody participated in the Ultimate Callout Challenge; also known as UCC. UCC brings the best of the best in the Diesel Industry together to compete against each other in a 3 day Drag Racing, Sled Pulling and Dyno event. It tests the abilities of the Drivers and their builds. With over 25 participants, Cody came in overall 10th place! This was an amazing accomplishment for Cody & the BD team, this was his first big competition with BD's TrackMaster Automatic Transmission, triple lock converter! He was running a standard. The truck was in need of some special Pulling suspension work and little adjustments that kept the truck from reaching its full potential, but Cody persevered and completed each of the three grueling events.
Cody's 6.7L Cummins. Interestingly, it was the only competitive truck at UCC 2017 that can be classed as a street engine rather than a full blown race engine. So, overall 10th position was amazing! Sporting the BD Triple Turbo 74mm set up in compound configuration, dual BD 12mm stroker CP3 high pressure pumps, BD stage 5 150HP Injectors and of course backed by the BD 48RE Roller Bearing Transmission with full manual valve body, his fully built (bullet proofed) TrackMaster 48 transmission handles the Cummins power and competitive abuse.
Cody has entered into UCC 2018 and will be powering the old gal' with the BD Triple Turbo 74mm set up in compound configuration, Dual BD R900 CP3's, Dual BD FlowMax Lift Pumps with ½ fuel lines suppling each of those R900 pumps and the BD Hi5 serviceable converter with a BD 12 bolt flex plate with a BD Track master transmission & manual valve body.
Shawn Ellerton 2004 Ford F-250 Stony Plain, AB
Shawn Ellerton (aka Canadian Redneck) Joined the BD Diesel Race Team in 2017 with his 2004 Ford F250 6.0L. After following Shawn's impressive racing for a few years we decided to reach out to him and recruit him to come on board to the team. Shawn has only exceeded our expectations, with his racing abilities and his entire outlook and personality. He certainly isn't shy.
Not only is Shawn a part of the BD Team, he is also on the DKG Racing team. The DKG Racing team is comprised of a group of Redneck Canadians with a great passion for diesel motorsports that thoroughly enjoy the fierce competition and camaraderie of high level competition like they see at the UCC as well as other organizations they race with on a regular basis.
In 2017, Shawn participated in the Ultimate Callout Challenge; also known as UCC. UCC brings the best of the best in the Diesel Industry together to compete against each other in a 3 day Drag Racing, Sled Pulling and Dyno event. It tests the abilities of the Drivers and their builds. With over 25 participants, Shawn placed 20th overall despite not competing in the sled pull. Shawn lost the engine to a catastrophic failure on the dyno on day two. He did manage to put over 1,000 HP to the dyno rollers before it scattered pieces on the deck of the dyno. Thus leading to him standing on his truck and yelling "AND THAT'S HOW YOU BREAK S**T!" leading the crowed to a standing ovation and giving him, without a doubt, the 'Most Entertaining' tag of the entire event.
Shawn finished up UCC 2017 by loudly and proudly supporting his team members Derek Rose & Cody Hopkins and the entire competition. Offering help where and when he could to keep the boys going. He showed true sportsmanship. Which BD takes pride in.
Ellerton and his DKG team have rebuilt and entered into UCC 2018 seeking redemption with the old 6.0L Power Stroke, powered by BD's twin S480's feeding an 76SX-E.
